Finding Autumnal Balance-Seasonal Transition for Autumn Equinox
Yoga, Qigong, Breathwork & Acupressure to find balance in the energy of Autumn and the Element of Metal.
Announcing the third in a series of half-day workshops to celebrate and connect with the seasons – Finding Autumnal Balance, will be held on Thursday 21st September and, due to popular demand for places, we’ve decided to add a second date for this workshop, Thursday 28th September, both 10am -1pm, at a beautiful private studio on the edge of rural Bath.
As we gently move towards the autumn equinox on 23rd September, we find ourselves, for the second time this year, at a point where day and night are of equal lengths. It’s a time of balanced yin and yang, a tipping point. If we look to nature and observe, the leaves are changing colour and will soon begin to fall. All around there are signs of animals and plants conserving energy in preparation for winter rest. It’s also a time for us to reflect on the balance in our own lives and gather in the harvest of our year so far, whilst also making space by releasing anything that no longer serves us. A time to begin to slow down, after the expansive fire energy of summer and the grounding earth energy of late summer, to reset and turn our attention inwards. Autumn is synonymous with the metal element and its qualities of inspiration and letting go, helping us smoothly transition through the year, balanced and ready to embody all that autumn has to offer.

Qigong with Sarah
Qigong (pronounced Chee-gong) originated in China thousands of years ago as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Focused movements help to optimise energy flow in and around the body with the aim of improving and maintaining health, vitality and wellbeing. We work gently but powerfully, connecting the body, mind and breath, leaving a sense of feeling relaxed yet energised. Qigong is all about balance, which is perfect for autumn! During our Finding Autumn Balance Workshop, we will explore ways to release stuck patterns of energy around the body before working through moves relating to the metal element to bring harmony, in mind and body both physically and emotionally.
Yoga with Jan
Yoga is a holistic practice that we embody throughout our lives, not just on our mats. So as nature finds its equilibrium at the autumn equinox, we too will take inspiration from nature to reflect on balance and imbalance in our own lives. During the Yoga element of our workshop, we will explore gentle poses to warm the body, building to balancing postures to ground ourselves, before turning our awareness more inward to conserve energy, slow down and nourish our bodies and our minds.
Acupressure and Breathwork with Mel
Acupressure is the gentle stimulation of acupuncture points with touch. This part of the workshop will allow us to connect with our body’s energy or Qi, to activate the paired acupuncture meridians of the lung and large intestine. These organs are linked to the element of Metal and the emotion of grief and loss. Grief need not be about sadness but the ending of one thing to make way for another, in this way we let go to make space for new inspiration to fill our lives. It is in truth, the pure element of surrender. We will also be looking at ways to stimulate the physical action of the lungs, strengthening our immune system for the colder months and ensuring our digestive organs are functioning well by stimulating
points on the large intestine channel.
Meet your facilitators:
Sarah was completely hooked the moment she first started practicing qigong! It was experiencing the benefits it had on her own body, mind and spirit that led her to undertake extensive training with Long White Cloud Qigong. She is interested in helping reduce internal stresses and anxiety and finding ways to tap into the body’s natural healing abilities, using movement, sound and moments of stillness. Sarah will be introducing elements of sound to some of our seasonal workshops.
Jan trained in Hatha Yoga with Yoga Alliance 10 years ago & runs weekly classes, workshops and retreats from her rural Wiltshire studio. She is passionate about creating transformative experiences for people, helping students to pause, to listen to and understand their bodies, to find space both for body and mind and to live more in the present moment, weaving yoga into every aspect of their lives. Jan incorporates flow, alignment principles, philosophy, breath and stillness into her practices, always with an element of light heartedness and fun!
Mel has been practicing yoga, massage and qigong for many years and runs two thriving acupuncture clinics in Bath and Bristol. She has over 13 years of clinical practice as an acupuncturist and teaches students on the degree course at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading. She is passionate about living with the seasons and the natural world; supporting people to find optimum health and happiness.
